TAJ MAHAL

Taj mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Means 'crown palace'. Located in banks of river Yamuna at Agra, India, built by Shah Jahan, Mughal emperor. He built it in memory of his lovable wife Mumtaz Mahal.


HISTORY: Mahal spreads over an area of 42 acres; it's an epitome of love. It was constructed over a period of 22 years, with 20,000 workers, at a cost of 32 million rupees. It has been built by experts from Delhi, Lahore, Multon, Quannaj, Bukhara, etc.

ARCHITECTURE: It’s a fusion of Persian, Islamic & Asian architecture. The tomb is the central focus, its 58 feet in diameter and 213 feet in height. Exterior decoration is the finest of the Islamic architecture. Decoration is by carvings, stone inlays, and stucco. Passages from QUR'AN are also used for decorations. Interior decoration is made with precious gemstones. It has an inner chamber which is octagon in shape. The garden is set around 300meter square. It has a marble water tank at the half way between tomb and gateway. As the Mughal empire decline garden also declined, then it was took over by British Empire and changed its landscape which resembled that of lawns of London.


TO REACH TAJMAHAL: its 204 Km to south of Delhi. By rails reach Agra cantonment by Shatabdi express, Rajdhani express, Taj express. By road reach main bus stand of IDGAH from Delhi, Jaipur etc. Local transport is by taxi, auto rickshaw etc.

TIMINGS: 6.00AM to 7.30 PM Friday closed. Best time to visit is during sunset and also during October to march.
